Over two million Las Vegans with no prior major league sports team to call our own have had no choice but to be. And while we may have had ties to “our teams” all over the country for whatever the reason, no matter the sport, it always felt a bit lonely, didn’t it? We’d find ourselves rooting for a team that those around us either disliked or didn’t care about and, at the end of the day, it would leave us divided. We clearly needed a change but couldn’t have imagined the absolute force that was about to storm our city. Plain and simple, Las Vegas had never before experienced anything quite like the Vegas Golden Knights.
It was such an unexpected match. An ice hockey team in the hottest of desert cities. But it worked. With their first game being less than a week after the biggest tragedy our home had ever seen in October 2017, the Knights’ first win was so much more than only a win. And just like that, the people living beside us turned from our neighbors to our family, and the NHL’s newest expansion transformed from just a team to OUR Vegas Golden Knights. Side by side, in disbelief, we watched our team go all the way to the championship, nearly taking the Stanley Cup in their very first season. To us, VGK will always represent unity, perseverance, and most importantly, #vegasstrong.
This team is important to us. Supporting the Knights fortifies our city and its people, and we’re here for it. As the NHL kicks off its regular season, keep the local love strong by heading to Firefly* before or after the game. Firefly* on Paradise is a quick ten-minute drive to or from the T-Mobile Arena, and with our extensive drink menus, incredible food, and Happy Hours, you really have no reason to skip it. Live in southwest Vegas? Even better. Swing by our newest location for all of your favorite Firefly* staples on the way into town.
It’s time to gear up in your best black, red, and gold. The season is here. Whether they’re playing a home game, away game, or aren’t playing at all, come on in and lift a cup of our world-famous sangria as we, together, root for our boys to take their own Cup this year. Happy NHL season and forever and always, GO KNIGHTS GO!
